Tri - M Petition and Change Drive Contest
MENC's goal is to deliver one million signatures to the Department of Education on June 18, 2009
Petitions for what? well the MENC with Tri - M wants to call on the U.S. Department of Education and all American Leaders to:
-Mandate that music and the other arts be part of every child's core curriculum;
-Ensure music and the other arts are included as a part of a balanced education addressing the whole child, to prepare them for the creative thinking necessary for success in the work force of the future;
-Ensure qualified music teachers and sequential curricula be recognized as the basis for providing all students with substantive education in music and the other arts;
-Ensure programs in music and the other arts provide rigorous instruction, monitor progress and performance through meaningful assessment, and take place within a structure of accountability to school officials, parents, and the community.
Everything is due to John Chang, me or Ms. Maloney by April 28, 2009 (Latest April 29, 2009)
It's due to the MENC by April 30.

Big news awaits! Here's a run-down of what was discussed at today's meeting:

- Important information for concert on May 2nd:
- call time will be 4:00-4:30PM; Ms. Maloney will not let anyone in after 4:30, so be punctual!
- set up will be at 5:00PM
- tickets will be sold at the door for $10
- concert will start at 6:00PM
- service club members will be needed to help clean up after the concert

They will be performing to help us raise money for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. Executive is sponsoring us by helping us pay for some costs ( security, custodial, etc...)
Possible dates are April 25 or May 2 6pm - [around] 9pm
Ticket costs will range from $7 - $10 ($15 at the door) - not sure if I should do the ASB card thing. Possibly sell VIP tickets?
note - NOT ALL TRI - M MEMBERS WILL HAVE ALL VIP ACCESS, ONLY PEOPLE WHO DO AS OF NOW IS: PRESIDENT, VICE PRESIDENT, SECRETARY, and TREASURER. When the date nears, there will be a "VIP" list of as to who can go backstage. <-- if you bug me then you wont be on the list. Must be an active member as well.
When David Choi and Kina Grannis are here, please DO NOT ACT LIKE IDIOTS! Don't bug them about autographs or ask them to teach you something. If you do, your membership will be at risk. Don't announce it to people, because I don't want to advertise till i get everything organized. But lets try to sell over 600 tickets!!

okay, some people from the American Cancer Society will be there, so we will be asking people for donations at dessert cabaret. Because we are determine to meet our goal right?! right! I feel bad for them coming as it is, because they paid $5 to an event that's not even for funding the cause, so we must urge people to donate ! alright!
moving on... here is a list of what I would like to be there (dessert wise)
ice cream, pie, muffins, cupcakes, cakes, and cookies. If you have your own special dessert that you want to share with everyone please do so.
For who ever is bringing the ice cream, if you like you can bring toppings for it like candy and sprinkles. theres a possibility that we can reimburse you if you bring a good number of ice cream.
keep in mind that its an all you can eat dessert, so we must bring enough for everyone.
NOW..... be sure to be formally dressed!!!! black and white only!! NO JEANS!!!
AFTERWARDS!!! ..... Tri - M dinner somewhere after dessert cabaret?? anyone??? tell me asap, suggestions for a restaurant on Main st., also tell me if your down for it!

For those of you who will be working with service clubs, I understand that, but you will have a lot of time to be with Tri - M through out the day. So stop using it as an excuse! The person in charge already told me they have A LOT of vollunteers, so there would be no problem if you guys stepped away from your service club.
For the forms, just fill out what you can. I'll tell you how to fill out everything else on the meeting we have on March 6, I will be at another meeting with American Cancer Society on March 2. So if there are any questions, feel free to ask.

here's an overview of what went on at last week's meeting:
1. Relay for Life with the American Cancer Society
who: Tri M + chaperones for every 10 people who show up
drumline will be performing in the morning, and choir will sing at night
where: Alhambra Park
when: May 16th to 17th, 24 hours, from 9:00 AM to 9:00 AM
* there will be day shifts and night shifts more information to be posted
what: relay for life; Tri M needs a canopy and members: please start collecting donations from family or friends when you receive the donation packet (which will be next week) or please provide ideas for fundraisers
*please refer to the American Cancer Society post below AND watch the video for further information
2. If any members are interested:
- song contest for Music in Our School Month- deadline is March 14th

-applications for the All American Marching Band are due on April 15th

and we know our own Tri - M advisor attended this last year and the people there still remember Ms. Maloney, for those of you who don't know, Ms. Maloney, our great Tri - M advisor found out last year that she has cancer in her left eye. So our chapter should be involved. =]

remember! just because we dont have a meeting doesnt mean we dont have something to do for Tri - M. Everyone must come up with at least one idea for Music In Our Schools Month for the month of March, the must relate to the theme "Music! Just Imagine..." Ideas are due Jan. 23, 2009. John Chang and I will be going to Northrup Elem. on Jan 26 to plan the event. People who help out with ideas and such, will be the handful of people that would be chosen to attend the event in March at Northrup. I dont mean just like giving us ideas, I mean people who give us ideas and cooperate with the event. [ I hope you all get what I mean, cause I dont want people complaining about not being able to go]

Just a little miscommunication here; Friday's yearbook picture will be at 3:10 PM between C and D building. Please be there earlier, about 3:00 PM. Wear your Tri-M sweaters, people who haven't paid please pay, and whoever doesn't have sweaters wear a black top so we loooook uniform!
But this Friday's Yearbook pictures are at 3:00pm. Meet up between C and D building.
Also, its really important that everyone come up with at least one idea for what we can do during Music In Our Schools Month. One thing we will be doing is go to Northrup Elem. School, but what can we do there? ideas????? please????????
