For those who missed today's meeting, here's what we discussed tomorrow's concert:

- call time is before 4:30 PM, roughly around 4, so be sharp!! (haha get it? b sharp)
- bring some money, in case we might decide to go for dinner after the concert
- wear your Tri M sweater; you can dress casually, but dress nicely, please
- also bring an umbrella, incase it rains
- at 4:30 PM, we will set up the auditorium
- at 5:00 PM, Millie Chen will arrive
- at 5:30 PM, Samantha and Sergio will start selling tickets at $10, and Betty, Tiffany, and Jenny will be in charge of the petition table and sell raffle tickets
- other Tri M members will usher or help relieve others, etc.
- at 6:00 PM, the concert will start
- at 9:00 PM, the concert will end, and we'll start to clean up

Another thing that we are participating in. here's what it is....

Tri - M Petition and Change Drive Contest
MENC's goal is to deliver one million signatures to the Department of Education on June 18, 2009
Petitions for what? well the MENC with Tri - M wants to call on the U.S. Department of Education and all American Leaders to:
-Mandate that music and the other arts be part of every child's core curriculum;
-Ensure music and the other arts are included as a part of a balanced education addressing the whole child, to prepare them for the creative thinking necessary for success in the work force of the future;
-Ensure qualified music teachers and sequential curricula be recognized as the basis for providing all students with substantive education in music and the other arts;
-Ensure programs in music and the other arts provide rigorous instruction, monitor progress and performance through meaningful assessment, and take place within a structure of accountability to school officials, parents, and the community.

Everything is due to John Chang, me or Ms. Maloney by April 28, 2009 (Latest April 29, 2009)
It's due to the MENC by April 30.

Sorry that I announced that there wouldn't be a meeting but, we really need to plan the concert we are having!!!!!

Yes! I got them to come and perform a concert! and! I was able to get the auditorium!!! WOOT!!! in case you don't know who they are. They are popular YouTube musicians.

They will be performing to help us raise money for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. Executive is sponsoring us by helping us pay for some costs ( security, custodial, etc...)
Possible dates are April 25 or May 2 6pm - [around] 9pm
Ticket costs will range from $7 - $10 ($15 at the door) - not sure if I should do the ASB card thing. Possibly sell VIP tickets?
note - NOT ALL TRI - M MEMBERS WILL HAVE ALL VIP ACCESS, ONLY PEOPLE WHO DO AS OF NOW IS: PRESIDENT, VICE PRESIDENT, SECRETARY, and TREASURER. When the date nears, there will be a "VIP" list of as to who can go backstage. <-- if you bug me then you wont be on the list. Must be an active member as well.
When David Choi and Kina Grannis are here, please DO NOT ACT LIKE IDIOTS! Don't bug them about autographs or ask them to teach you something. If you do, your membership will be at risk. hi everyone!!! dessert cabaret is this friday!!
okay, some people from the American Cancer Society will be there, so we will be asking people for donations at dessert cabaret. Because we are determine to meet our goal right?! right! I feel bad for them coming as it is, because they paid $5 to an event that's not even for funding the cause, so we must urge people to donate ! alright!
moving on... here is a list of what I would like to be there (dessert wise)
ice cream, pie, muffins, cupcakes, cakes, and cookies. If you have your own special dessert that you want to share with everyone please do so.
For who ever is bringing the ice cream, if you like you can bring toppings for it like candy and sprinkles. theres a possibility that we can reimburse you if you bring a good number of ice cream.
keep in mind that its an all you can eat dessert, so we must bring enough for everyone.
NOW..... be sure to be formally dressed!!!! black and white only!! NO JEANS!!!
AFTERWARDS!!! ..... Tri - M dinner somewhere after dessert cabaret?? anyone??? tell me asap, suggestions for a restaurant on Main st., also tell me if your down for it!

Regarding to Relay For Life

I just recently learned that Relay for Life is the day after Prom. For those who are going, just tell me what time you will be showing up, but keep in mind that our drumline will be performing in the morning, and our Marching Band's Drum majors along with your President and your Vice President will be marching along with them. I would like as many people as possible that morning as well, because I would like to get a picture and send it to MENC so they may publish it on Tri - M News, also so we may put it on our Tri - M yearbook and send it to MENC and try to win Chapter of the Year, so we can show MKHS we dominate as a Tri - M chapter around here, and it's our turf muwahwahahahaha.....

Relay For Life is Saturday, May 16, 2009 - Sunday, May 17, 2009
For those of you who will be working with service clubs, I understand that, but you will have a lot of time to be with Tri - M through out the day. So stop using it as an excuse! The person in charge already told me they have A LOT of vollunteers, so there would be no problem if you guys stepped away from your service club.
For the forms, just fill out what you can. I'll tell you how to fill out everything else on the meeting we have on March 6, I will be at another meeting with American Cancer Society on March 2. So if there are any questions, feel free to ask.

Hey everyone,

here's an overview of what went on at last week's meeting:

1. Relay for Life with the American Cancer Society
who: Tri M + chaperones for every 10 people who show up
drumline will be performing in the morning, and choir will sing at night
where: Alhambra Park
when: May 16th to 17th, 24 hours, from 9:00 AM to 9:00 AM
* there will be day shifts and night shifts more information to be posted
what: relay for life; Tri M needs a canopy and members: please start collecting donations from family or friends when you receive the donation packet (which will be next week) or please provide ideas for fundraisers
*please refer to the American Cancer Society post below AND watch the video for further information

2. If any members are interested:
- song contest for Music in Our School Month- deadline is March 14th
* you must compose a song
-applications for the All American Marching Band are due on April 15th

I was just recently at a meeting/ dinner with the American Cancer Society, and I have signed us up as a team for the "Relay for Life" event held at Alhambra Park on May 16-17. They asked me if I can try to get the whole music program involved. Like one thing that they want is that, the first lap which is for survivors of cancer "The Survivors Lap", and they would like our band and or our drumline to lead the way on the first lap, also at night when they do the candle light ceremonial thing for loved ones they asked if our choir can sing while it happens. Can't wait!! this is a big cause and of course our National Honor Society is here to help! =D Music helps in all aspects of life, getting through tough times like cancer, music can cure the mind and the soul (woah Albert, Thats deep, lol) BUT ITS TRUE!!
and we know our own Tri - M advisor attended this last year and the people there still remember Ms. Maloney, for those of you who don't know, Ms. Maloney, our great Tri - M advisor found out last year that she has cancer in her left eye. So our chapter should be involved. =]

well there are chances of showers tomorrow during the social. After discussions with the President and William Chiu (helped plan social with me) we decided that rain or shine the social will go on. It will be in the canopy area between the softball fields.
I said it started at 12:00pm before but lets make it around 12:15 ish I guess. Anyone with board games, bring them if you think it'll be a fun thing to play. Bring something that we can play with.

Happy New Year, everyone! We hope everybody had a relaxing break. =]

Just a few reminders to get the new year started:
-Remember, there is a meeting this Friday- Jan. 9th
-*EDIT: Jan. 9th is also yearbook picture day, so show your Tri M pride and wear your sweater! =). The Yearbook picture will be held between the C and D buildings. Please be present there at 3:00 PM. Also, for those who ordered sweaters and didn't turn money in, please turn it in this week for the yearbook picture. And to those who didn't order a sweater, please wear black that day for the picture.
-don't forget to pick up your sweater from Albert if you haven't done so. Wear it to the picture! =)
-we will be co-hosting dessert cabaret with choir
-we may be having a bake sale this year to raise some mulah
-ideas for Music in Our School Month? theme: Music Just Imagine

Those of you who already paid and I see you at All City [Rose Parade] Marching Band, I'll bring it on Friday, the day we go to Disneyland. For everyone else who I wont be seeing, feel free to contact me by phone, aim, facebook, etc... otherwise youll get it on the Monday we get back to school.

- Music in Our School Month is in March, meaning that Tri M needs to think of ways to promote music/ music education at elementary schools. Albert has already spoken to the music teacher at Northrup, so we may be doing something there (yay Albert!).
*Winter assignment: think of what you want to do to promote music/teach younger children. Please have it be PG. The theme is "Music Just Imagine".

Update on sweaters!!!

Here is pretty much how it looks like. Remember it's a black zip up.
For those of you who in any way helped out with the bake sale the sweaters for you will be $25, for everyone else its $29
please pay me as soon as possible so we may get the sweaters as soon as possible, it's getting cold outside =] lol... and so for the band people in All City we have something to show off to San Gabriel, since they are always showing off their lame SG t-shirts (which they should get sued for) and their sweaters.

I just recently spoke with the President of Gab's Tri - M and we will be postponing the social to late January or early February. In place we can have our own social, or a little winter get together, where we can meet up, give our smm gifts eat and what not....
I dont know, just know that the social has been postponed, due to senior finals and such at Gab.

The annual Winter Concert is on December 12 at 7:00pm. Come support if you're not performing!

Christmas Caroling at the local convalescent home on Garfield will probably be during the third week of December, the last week of school before break. Official date and time is TBA. We have decided to sing Deck the Halls, Silent Night, Frosty the Snowman, Joy to the World, and Up On The Housetop. The attire for the event will be black and white, almost concert-like.

A social with Gabrielino's Tri M will be on December 21. This event is MANDATORY, especially because our club looks low in numbers compared to them.

Yearbook pictures will be on January 9th, 2009. That will be a friday, so we can go after our meeting. This is just an early notice.

Sweaters will be in soon. If you have not ordered one and would like to, please contact Albert.

Lanyards are, again, navy blue with white print and will cost $2.

To receive a Tri M membership pin, you must meet the following criteria:
- attend meetings (cannot miss two or three meetings)
- attend events (caroling, bakesale, etc)
Dedicated seniors will receive honor chords.

We have drawn names for SMM (secret music masters!) so have fun in gift giving!

Hello everyone,
hoped you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving, Meeting will now be held on Fridays (I hope that's good for everyone) at the canteen as always, at 3:10pm Officers are to show up at 3:00pm so we may do an over view of what we will be talking about during the meeting.

Lanyards will now be navy blue (because they dont have maroon) and will cost everyone about $2 or less (*gasp*) white font saying "Tri - M Music Honor Society" (unless someone has another idea of what else to put on it)
Sweaters/ Jackets (what ever you guys would like to call it) the zip ups will cost around $20 most likely no more than $25 check back for the exact price, please check back for prices so we don't have to wait yet another week without our Sweaters/ Jackets. So everyone can pay by the next meeting.

I just recently spoke with the President of Gabrielino's Tri - M, a possible date for the social with them will be on Dec. 14 and Dec. 21, details on that will be announced and posted on the site.

well an important reminder is the sweater designs!!! if you have a sweater design, please turn them in to either John Chang or I, Albert Lu by this Friday. It must be on white computer paper. If nobody turns one in, i guess were going to go with my design which is basically the 3 M's (look at the blogs banner on top) in the back, and the Tri - M senior chapter emblem on the chest on the left and ur name. the only thing u guys would have a say in would be the color of the sweater. (it would be nice if it were a color we could wear in concert attire, black and white.) the club color is maroon

-We will be taking attendance at all meetings. If you are MIA for three meetings, you will have to pay $7 club dues. If you do not have any money, then come to the meetings! Meetings are EVERY TUESDAY AT 3:40 PM IN THE CANTEEN. Please do your best to be on time.
If you have time conflicts with other clubs, then see one of the staff members so we could work out something. If there's an emergency on a meeting day, please inform one of the staff members, and you will be excused.

-If you have any suggestions regarding sweatshirts, fundraisers, concerts, etc. feel free to voice your opinion at the meetings; we won't bite. You may also leave comments on the blog...we will do our best to check them and reply. You can also email us at ahs_tri_m@yahoo.com if you have any questions- but please don't send us chain mail.
